Walking 10,000 steps a day has become a benchmark in recent years.
Walking provides many benefits and has low injury risk.
Walking can be done anywhere and requires minimal equipment.
A pair of proper shoes is important, since your feet influence your whole body as soon as you stand up.
The proper pair of shoes provides better control of your heel bone and foot arches, sensory guidance for your walking gait mechanics, and allows you to sense the impact on your body as you walk.
When I work with clients on their posture or biomechanics, one of the hurdles I run into is that they feel “good” or pain-free during the training session, but that feeling doesn’t stick during the time we are not training.”
The most common reasons are: 1) the client didn’t do the homework exercises as prescribed, 2) poor stress and sleep management, and 3) inappropriate footwear.”
When I perform a biomechanics assessment on a client with a pair of proper shoes, their assessment results improve without any stretching or reset exercises.
I simply have them walk in their shoes and the body starts to relax and open up.
It is remarkable, and I recommend you take a look at this guide provided by the Postural Restoration Institute on how to choose the proper shoes.”
